Bedford 2020

How would you like to see Bedford change in the next 10 years?

What would make Bedford a better place for the people who live here?

What would make Bedford a good example of sustainability to the rest of the country and the rest of the world?

What is there about Bedford which should be highlighted and made more of? Our beautiful River Great Ouse for example: Is this asset being fully exploited as a source of relaxation and spiritual renewal?

What is there about Bedford you would like to see changed?

As we look forward to Bedford 2020 on Saturday 15th May, what do we want to celebrate about our town? What do we want to deplore?

What I deplore is more and more flats and houses going up without solar panels (or ground source heat pumps), without communal gardens or people being taught how to grow their own veg and herb pots.

Two generations have grown up who don’t know about about sustainable home remedies: nettles, comfrey, sage in your garden or free foods: wild mushrooms, blackberries, hawthorn berries.

People who don’t to do their washing ‘on a good drying day’, how to best hang it on a line so it gets that good clean smell, rather than putting it in a dryer.

Chewing gum in the streets, take-away cups thrown away…

Also supermarkets still giving out plastic bags…
